There are many simple things you can do on a daily to help out the environment. Some are easy and some are harder. For this post, we are going to keep it to the more basic ways that you can live a more sustainable life. I will tell you about 10 daily zero waste daily essentials that will help you live more sustainably. I will start off by getting into things to own and the things that you can do to help you help the environment.
Zero Waste Daily Essentials Things To Have
Stainless steel or glass water bottle
This one in my opinion is one of the most important things to have around. So many plastic water bottles are used every day, thousands in the US every day. It is a very easy switch to go from a disposable plastic water bottle to a reusable option. Though you don’t need to buy anything too fancy a simple double-layered metal water bottle will do. If you want something with a bit more style though this one that you can get from Amazon comes in many different prints. But if you do not want to spend any money you can just reuse any old water bottle you have lying around.
Reusable utensils and a straw
This one is essential for some people but not everyone. If you stop to get takeout a lot it could be useful to start carrying around a set of reusable utensils. You can buy a set or just carry around a fork and spoon from your kitchen, it is up to you. You could also start carrying around a stainless steel straw for when you stop at restaurants. Or you can skip the straw altogether.
Fabric grocery bags
This one is my favorite. I have these great bags that I got from Amazon. They do not sell them anymore but here is another set like the one that I got. These are great because they are way more durable and the larger straps make them much easier to carry.
Rechargeable batteries
Everyone uses batteries for something, whether it is for your computer mouse, remote control, kids toy, and so much more. There is no reason that you should rebuy batteries over and over wasting resources and your money. Spend a little extra money now and save money in the long run. This is the battery charger that I have. It works great, has a color system to show when they are charged, and comes with some extra batteries too.
Reusable tupperware
Plastic tupperware is not only bad for your environment, but it is also bad for you. Toxins leak into your food when you reheat it in the microwave. Glass tupperware does not have that problem. It may be a little bulkier but it is worth it. It stays good for much longer, it does not warp like plastic does when it is warmed up. The tupperware I have is great it is microwave, dishwasher, and oven safe. Here is a link to it I recommend checking it out.
Zero Waste Daily Essentials To Do
Avoid plastic bags
Plastic bags are a big problem for the world and especially the ocean. They are hard to recycle and therefore almost never are. So replacing them with the reusable bags that I mentioned before. But it is not just about shopping bags keep an eye out for produce bags and other thin plastic that can not be recycled.
Buy from the bulk section
Buying in bulk is a great way to reduce your waste because it allows you to reduce your waste down to be almost nothing. Using those cotton bags you can buy in bulk. Fill the bags with just the amount you need, take them home, and refill your glass jars. These are the produce bags that you can get to use for bulk shopping.
Take your name off of mailing lists
Getting so much paper in the mail can often be frustrating for a zero-waste person. Sometimes it seems like will never stop, but it is actually not that hard to get off those lists. You are going to want to opt-out of these lists and you can do that by going to this government website and filling out the opt-out forms. I have not done this one myself. Mostly because I do not get that much junk mail. If you do though please let me know about your experience with it.
Recycle when possible
Recycling is a good way to help the environment if you can not go zero waste. Though it is not a perfect fix. It takes a lot of energy to recycle some materials so try to avoid waste and plastics first and save the recycling for the things you can not replace in a zero waste way.
Avoid coupons that make you buy extra
Coupons do a great job of tricking you into buying more than you need. If you are going to use that more of whatever it is by all means go ahead and use the coupon. But for the things you buy extra of just because there is a coupon. That is where they get you. Only buy the things that you need do not fall into the trap of the coupons.
These are not very hard things to do, it mostly just takes time to get used to a few minor changes at a time. Changing things little by little until you get used to one change at a time. Start out with getting rid of those pesky plastic water bottles. Then the cotton bags and so on.
These changes are things that will really add out over time. If you stuck to it think of the things you will save over a lifetime, thousands maybe millions of pounds worth of trash. That is an amazing amount of things that you can save from the landfill just by not putting your money into those products.
I hope you enjoyed this post if you did here is a link to another zero waste post from me all about how to get started. Please leave a comment and let me know what you liked most about it.

These are great tips! I have become more eco conscious in the last year or so and it is really mind-blowing how much waste we produce! Loved these ideas, they’re all super simple to do!

Ya me too. The trash compactor at my apartment complex broke recently, and to see everyone trash pile up in a parking spot was quite a shocker.
